Gordon was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1950. He played basketball at Marshall High School and then at the University of Illinois, where he was a three-time All-American. In 1972, he was drafted by the Chicago Bulls of the NBA, but he chose to sign with the Virginia Squires of the ABA instead.

Gordon quickly became one of the most popular players in the ABA. He was a gifted scorer and rebounder, and he played with a fiery intensity that made him a fan favorite. In 1974, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he quickly helped the team become a contender in the Eastern Conference.

Gordon was a key member of the Cavs team that reached the NBA Finals in 1976. He averaged 22.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game in the playoffs, and he was named to the All-NBA Second Team. The Cavs ultimately lost to the Boston Celtics in the Finals, but Gordon's performance solidified his status as one of the best players in the league.

Gordon continued to play for the Cavs until 1980, when he was traded to the Detroit Pistons. He played one more season in the NBA before retiring in 1981. In his career, he averaged 18.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.

After retiring from the NBA, Gordon worked as a coach and scout. He was an assistant coach for the Cavs from 1982 to 1984, and he was the head coach of the Continental Basketball Association's Cleveland Rockers from 1997 to 1999.

Gordon was inducted into the Cleveland Cavaliers Hall of Fame in 1996. He is considered one of the greatest players in Cavs history, and his number 34 is retired by the team.

Legacy

Roger Gordon is a true Cleveland Cavaliers legend. He was a key member of the team's only NBA Finals appearance, and he is still beloved by fans today. Gordon's legacy is one of hard work, determination, and passion. He is a role model for all aspiring basketball players, and he is a true ambassador for the game of basketball.
